Default Balthazar's Spirit + Essense bond - does it work?

I was thinking, what if you had a protection monk running Life Bond on the rest of the party, and Balthazar's aura on himself. I already know that even if the damage is reduced to 0, it's still applied as damage and the benefits of Balthazar's Spirit give Energy back. I've tested this part and it works, making it easy to maintain 8-9 enchantments during heavy combat.

Now the second part, what if anyone with a Monk class cast Essense Bond on the Protection monk - would they get 1 Energy back every time the Protection monk took 0 damage? If so that would be a wicked combo, every hit on anyone in the party generating energy for everyone. You could fill up a bar pretty quick I would think

Has this been tested?

Unfortunately, you will not get Energy from Essence Bond due to damage taken from Life Bond (whereas you will with Balthazar's Spirit). I suppose that this is because Life Bond damage is not actually considered physical damage (as stated in the description of Essence bond), but it still counts as damage (for Balthazar's Spirit).

I actually have a prot monk build with Life bond and balthazars spirit, unfortuantely, even IN a heavy battle, you CANNOT maintain 7 enchantments very well WHILE keeping yourself alive unless you want Negative energy (Aka, you lose enchantments). The damage that life bond converts it into is sort of like Illusionary Weaponry. It's not physical or elemental, it's just some odd thing that -hp off of you, therefore you cannot add essence with it. Btw, Life Bond-Balthazar chains don't work (Aka, if you have 2 monks cast life bond and balthazars spirit on each other, their damage won't go back and forth).

Also, im curious exactly how you maintained up to even 8 enchantments in "Heavy" combat, I find it highly incapable unless you happen to be fighting 8 rangers with really weak preperations, or else, it's too exxagerated.

Deathlord, you are absolutely wrong. My friend and I have done it. We both maintained 9 enchantments. I life bonded 4 members of the team, then life barriered the same 4. He did the same. Both of us also had balthazar's spirit. When party members were being hit, our energy was fine. Blessed Signet kept our energy at decent levels when the fighting was at a lull or our guys were rockin the enemy hard. Sounds impossible, but it worked fine. Until a korean team started stripping enchantments.

Heehee. Oh well.

That's the strategy I was working on - two Protection monks backing up 4 member each, including each other. I was hoping Essense bond would work off of it because Balthazars gets you back a TON of energy on 4 life-bonds, ESPECAILLY in heavy combat!! If you have 2 or 3 member engaged you can do 9 enchants easy without even using the signet

Essence Bond activating off Life-bond redirected damage used to work, but was so abusively powerful in the setup you were thinking about that they changed it to the way it is now. A great idea, but unfortunately too late.

On a side note, if you have I think 16 in protection prayers, you can combo balthazar's spirit and essence bond with protective bond. At 16, prot. bond only lets you take damage equal to 5% of your health at the cost of 2 energy per hit, and you'll be getting that 2 energy back with the other 2 enchantments. Put in a couple superior runes to bring your health down, and you'll be barely taking any dmg from attacks. Great for PvE tanking and arena pvp.

Please note that my build does not contain essence bond, part of the original posters idea. I was responding only to deathlord, who also discussed everything BUT essence bond. I haven't tried essence bond in the build yet, but it seems from the other posts that it wouldn't work.

Blessed singet lets you keep 8+ enchantments easily =)

But no, essence bond is phys damage only.
